In the darkness of my soul
When the spirit takes control
And no comfort can be found
The Raven makes a lonely sound
In the evening of this time
If we all should lose our way
And Johnny's soul should taste the grave
We know the music must remain
Yes, the music must remain!
Across the sea of time
You know a spell was cast
And those who hear.. and catch the wind
They know the song will last
Soaring over mountains
See him bend your will
Raven Beckons from the night
He doesn't share his kill
In the forest of your soul
No matter how you try you lose control
We are not the masters of our mind
I do believe I knew this all the time
Across the sea of time
You know a spell was cast
And those who hear.. and catch the wind
They know their song will last
One more chance to try
You'd better get it right
Very soon the Raven
Takes you to the night
When Johnny's soul should taste the grave
You know the music must remain
Style: Rock
History:Steve likes to write stuff that goes all over the place.
The night he was working through this idea with the band, Johnny Cash died. So Mike decided to reference Johnny in the lyrics he was improvising, and maybe that idea (black) is what ultimately inspired Mike's title for the song? There's an interesting series of changes starting with the momentary "Ravel's Bolero"-inspired part at 2 minutes 35 seconds which quickly transforms into a spacey, bluesy thing, and then back into a heavy metal riff! Follow if you dare!
