Lyrics

Time it seems to pass me by, a shooting star in a midnight sky
Tracing the years through all those tears, when the future seemed so dear
I looked to a place time had erased
For my innocence

And I'm running, and I'm hiding
And I'm trying like hell to find 'em

Looking for those lost years again
Searching for that old familiar friend

Nothing familiar in my sight to warm a cold and lonely night
I had no chance to shed a tear before the dawn was here
Bringing me hope, keeping the faith
In my innocence

And I'm running, and I'm hiding
And I'm trying like hell to find 'em

Looking for those lost years again
Searching for that old familiar friend

Time it seems has passed me by, paying no heed to what I cry
Too many years from now 'til then.. no bridge can join the ends
For my past I can't change
The loss of innocence

And I'm running, and I'm hiding
And I'm trying like hell to find 'em

Looking for those lost years again
Searching for that old familiar friend
Looking for those lost years again

Abstract

Style: Wistful Rock

History: Back in the late 1980's, Jason Heintz asked Steve Bloomquist to write a guitar part to accompany a drum beat idea that he had. Steve came up with a twangy, almost surf-style flatpicked chord progression, and nothing more became of it. Years later, Steve developed a little pedal exercise in E minor to warm up his fingers when playing keyboards. When Lost Frontier was building up material in 1993, the old twang progression was brought out of the closet, and in the interest of expanding on it, Steve combined his finger warmup exercise (adapted for guitar) and the music was hashed out. Mike had a good lyrical idea for the chorus.. " Looking for those lost years again" and he tried out some lyrics which he had written long before. Steve then re-wrote the lyrics around Mike's central idea, and we ended up using them. The vocal melody for the chorus was just not working though, so right before we went into the studio to record the song, Steve changed it and added the harmony vocal parts.
